Lucy Algas

Obituary of Lucy Algas

Lucy Algas, 87 years old, was born May 31, 1933 in Chihuahua, Mexico. She came to Salinas, CA in 1954 where she met her soul mate, Pedro Vanderlipe Algas. They were wed together for over sixty years and raised their four children in the Boronda district of Salinas.

Not one to sit still, Lucy also worked in the sardine canneries, packing sheds and at JM Smuckers for over 25 years as a production lineperson getting those delicious jams and jellies out the door! If that wasn't enough for her, she had a thriving side business in the flea market selling in places like King City, San Ardo, and San Jose and STILL had energy to help take care of the grandchildren when they were very young.

Lucy was also an active member of the St. Phillip’s Presbyterian Church and the Filipino Community and loved her senior bingo days! Her favorite past times included line dancing, music, watching her favorite TV shows such as "Dancing with the Stars", "Judge Judy" and "Columbo", "Wheel of Fortune", and traveling with her children and grandchildren to fun entertainment places. Her energy level was amazing and she loved walking everywhere: to Northridge Mall, Fisherman’s Wharf in Monterey and the parks in Salinas and Milpitas. She enjoyed socializing with her many, many friends and family. She will be greatly missed !!!

She touched the lives of many people with her big heart ... always giving. There was always food at her house and if she came to your home, she would bring you food. You had to be careful not to mention anything you liked because she'd go out and buy it in bulk as a gift for the next time she saw you!
Lucy was preceded in death by her loving husband Pedro Vanderlipe Algas, her mother and father, brothers Ralph Sanchez, Louis Sanchez, Pablo Sanchez and sisters Esther Malonay, Mary Castillo, and Rachel Sanchez.

Loving and cherished mother to Fulgencio Algas of Milpitas CA, Susie Algas of Milpitas CA, Nancy Yvonne Algas (Andy) of Campbell CA, and Judy Ann Algas (Greg) of Santa Clara CA; two grandsons Nicholas Algas-Sasaki and Jonathan Pedro Algas Atkins, and two granddaughters Jacqueline Maria Algas-Sasaki and Jessica Paige Algas Atkins.
